About

J.B. Blodgett

I have deep roots in the vast lake country of Northern Minnesota, where my family settled soon after my dad returned from the Navy. Local carpenters built our rustic home overlooking magnificent Cotton Lake, surrounded by thousands of acres of National forest. (Above is a view across the lake from the shore in front of our home.)

It was a great time and place to be a kid. With my German Shepherd/Malamute dog, "King," I explored my majestic surroundings--fields, forests, logging trails, ponds, and lakes. In winter, King would become a sled dog, and we would roam the frozen terrain as far as we could travel and get back before dark. I spent hours fishing, boating, and hanging out with family and friends in the summertime.

My two sisters and I trudged about a mile over country roads to a one-room rural elementary school. Later, our parents delivered us to junior high and high school in the nearest town, Detroit Lakes. After graduating from Detroit Lakes high school, I attended the University of North Dakota, where I received my B.S. in Business.

After early jobs with Honeywell, 3M Company, and the W. T. Raleigh Company, I brought my love of the seashore to California, where I raised two beautiful daughters and operated a thriving printing business with a friend in La Jolla and San Diego.

After a diverse career in advertising, marketing, consulting, and entrepreneurial businesses, I'm now a full-time writer/author. It seems like I've always been writing. Early in my career, I created product and service ads, newsletters, instruction manuals, and brochures for client companies. I eventually authored short stories and how-to books.

I often travel to favorite out-of-the-way places with my wife, Cathy, and our small Havanese dog, Katie. My experiences have inspired my stories. The Emerald Triangle is my first work in the thriller fiction genre.
